Elimination Final Match Report Vs. Brisbane

By Paddy Farley

It was a do or die clash for the Seagulls as they headed to Brisbane for their semi-final against the Lions.

Brighton Homes Arena was the venue to host the huge clash as both sides looked to reach a preliminary final.

It was a low scoring start to the game as Brisbane was able to lock the ball in their forward half but were unable to capitalise.

A 10-point buffer was held early by the home side as Williamstown were trying to settle into the encounter.

The Seagulls were unable to trouble the major’s column as they trailed by 17-points heading into the first break.

Brisbane burst out of the blocks after the break and made it hard for the Seagulls to find any control in the warm conditions up north.

The home side found themselves 32-points in front mid-way through the first term in what was worrying signs for the travelers.

Daly Andrews broke the ice for the Seagulls continuing to be a powerful player for the Seagulls and slotting their first major for the match.

There was still a lot of work to do for the Seagulls however as they trailed by 28-points.

As the second half commenced Josh Pickess and Joel Ottavi looked to be the ones who could turn it around for the Seagulls. Their forward pressure and prowess got their side back within striking distance of the Lions.

Marty Hore was also standing up down back, rebounding off half back, giving his side every chance to get back into the game.

Brisbane was able to defend well however and keep the margin to 23-points heading into the final term.

Despite a goal from Oscar McDonald in the early parts of the final term it was all Brisbane as they ran away in the final term to extend their winning margin to 40-points and would ultimately end Williamstown’s season.

Williamstown 7.6 (48)

Brisbane 12.16 (88)
