State league update: Fixture changes
Thursday June 10, 2021
(Williamstown is set to host Richmond in a 2019 VFL Grand Final replay next weekend).
The AFL have today advised that, due to State Government Covid restrictions, there will be no state league football games played in Melbourne over this Queen's Birthday weekend. However both our teams will be able to re-commence group training at Downer Oval this Saturday morning. Click here to see the official media release.
Therefore, the games scheduled for Downer Oval on 12th June will not proceed.
The AFL will confirm the fixtured games on a week to week basis. Next Monday (14th June) is when they aim to release the upcoming fixtured games for next weekend (June 19/20).
Our next games will also be home games at Downer Oval as follows:
- VFLW v Essendon
- VFL v Richmond
Our indigenous themed round, supported by Wamarra, will now be celebrated at each of these games, with both our teams wearing player designed indigenous guernseys. The AFL is yet to confirm dates and times for these fixtures but we will advise all our members, supporters and stakeholders once this information comes to hand.
This will be complimented by a Presidents Luncheon on prior to our VFL game against Richmond, in what will be a 2019 VFL Grand Final replay.
AFL Football Operations Manager Steve Hocking will be our guest speaker.
This event will be subject to Government limits on maximum patrons, and is sure to sell out, so we encourage you to book early.
We thank all our Seagull fans for your patience in dealing with these fixturing changes, which is being done to help safeguard our community.
We look forward to getting back into action next weekend and seeing you all there in full support.
Until then, take care.
