VFLW Gulls challenged, refreshed after Trafalgar camp
Williamstown's VFLW players enjoyed a physically and mentally-challenging three-day camp in Trafalgar last weekend in the build up Round 1.
The Seagulls underwent a mindset and visualisation workshop run by playing-assistant coach Allana Dickie on day one, followed by three activities run by The Summit Camp staff; Summit Heights Challenge, laser tag and a mud run where staff also participated.
A leadership group values and behaviours session followed by game plan and in-season preparation kicked off day two, before the players took to the field for a more familiar football session.
On the final day, the VFLW high performance team ran a challenging bootcamp-style session to test the player's physical strength and teamwork skills, before venturing back to reality and the Melbourne heat.
VFLW playing-assistant coach Allana Dickie said although there were challenging experiences, the camp brought the group closer together.
"It was a really good opportunity, we’ve got a lot of new girls in the team, obviously myself included, so for everyone to be able to mingle amongst different crowds, we really got to know each other on a deeper level and challenge ourselves in different areas.
"Physically, mentally (and) emotionally it was really good and I think that that’s going to help us bond not just on-field but also off-field, which will obviously bring us together as a family and a tight unit come game day."
The camp provided a great opportunity for the players to further invest in each other's lives outside of football, build strong bonds that can be translated to on-field performance and continue on the hard work they have put in since December.
Williamstown Football Club extends a special thanks to Joe Tripodi from Melbourne Fruit Supplies for providing all the fruit and vegetables, Bakers Delight Altona for supplying all the bread, Peter and Julie for pre-preparing and supplying both night's dinners and all The Summit Camp staff.
