Fonda spreads his Williamstown colours
Our Club has been left gratified by the unwavering support shown by its members in 2020. Supporters continued to sign up throughout the year despite the uncertainty that surrounded the year.
One of them, 2020 member Fonda Zahopoulos, ensured he had his Williamstown guernsey ready to go as a point of difference and to show his support of the Seagulls for his work’s footy colours day last week.
The Moonee Ponds local is a proud, long-time Williamstown supporter.
“Growing up I spent my whole summers in Williamstown. Growing up there as a youngster, I still go down there and used to spend Sunday mornings down at the beach,” Fonda said.
“I started following the VFL team when Barry Round joined a very long time ago, and it’s been my go-to club since then.
“So I thought this year, before COVID-19 kicked in, I joined, signed up, thought I’d go to a couple of games and what have you but obviously that never eventuated.
“I was always wanting to buy a guernsey, so I placed an order to wear it for our footy colours day for work. They all had their AFL teams ready to go and I thought I’ll be different, let’s support local - that’s the way to go.”
Fonda sets up a social committee through his business - Gallagher Jeffs - to raise money for different corporate charities. This time he and his team helped raise funds for Beyond Blue, with a particular focus on mental health.
Williamstown commends the amazing contribution made by its loyal members in 2020, and we look forward to launching our 2021 membership in November.
