Seagulls buoyed by unwavering support

Williamstown Football Club is thrilled with the response from members in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic subsequently causing a halt to the VFL and VFLW competitions.

Heading down to Morris Street to watch Willi as a weekend ritual, attending the President’s Functions and enjoying the family activities at Downer Oval - including our Titan Plumbing Kids Activity Zone - are some of the things the pandemic has taken away from our fans.

As a Club, we’re feeling the pinch just like other businesses nation-wide. But it makes the Club proud to know our supporters will always stand with us in trying circumstances.

Members have continued to contact the club to ask for membership renewals despite the uncertainty surrounding the start to the 2020 season, while others continue to sign up online.

More than 90 memberships have been purchased since the announcement of the season postponement.

CEO Jason Reddick said he is gratified with the level of support shown by the Williamstown faithful.

"The support of our members in a period of such uncertainty has been nothing short of amazing. The community spirit of '95 lives on!" he said.

"I have notified both our VFL and VFLW playing groups by video conference this week, of the tremendous support we are receiving from our Seagull members.

"When the situation allows, we will be holding a whole of Club event to celebrate our loyal members and corporate partners who have stood by us in 2020."

Loyal member Daniel O’Brien, who has been supporting the Seagulls since the 70s, said he was happy to help the Club in any way possible.

“I love the Club,” he said after he recently purchased a 2020 family membership.

“I've joined again this year realising there is the possibility of no footy being played, but it's just my little way of still contributing.”

New members Paul and Katherine echoed his thoughts: “Our kids (got) interested in going to games last year, which they really enjoyed. We are making an effort during the coronavirus restrictions to support businesses, clubs and individuals that we enjoy in Melbourne. We want the Williamstown Seagulls to survive!”

The Club is working closely with other VFL clubs and the AFL and will update our members with information as the situation continues to evolve.
