Mel Backhouse

An accomplished footballer and passionate about the game, Melissa played for over 15 years, represented the ACT on many occasions and was All Australian once. 

As an administrator, she was instrumental in the growth and development of female football both in the ACT and nationally through the ACT Women’s Football league (2004-2011) and a representative on the National Female Football Advisory Committee from 2005 to 2009.

Professionally Melissa is a qualified accountant, consulting to government with KPMG for seven years and has more than 15 years’ experience working in the sport and physical activity industry at all levels, from grass roots to national.  In these roles she has supported elite sporting programs and pathway development, introduced new participation opportunities, focussed on customer-centric approaches, developed organisational strategies and led governance change. 

Special Responsibilities: Mel will be offering her advice and expertise on the female football subcommittee.
