VFLW '22 Start Date Locked In

By Josh Conway

14 games across 16 rounds will again be on the agenda for all 12 VFLW clubs, with the AFL confirming the start date for the 2022 VFLW season on Tuesday afternoon.

The VFL Women's season will begin on February 12, with the soon-to-be-released fixture to contain 14 home-and-away games for all clubs across 16 rounds. Competition rules have stayed largely unchanged from the incomplete 2021 season, with a small tweak made to the selection of development players the only main alteration.

21 will remain the number of total players selected per match, however AFLW and AFLW-aligned teams now must select five under-22 development players weekly, down from six in 2021. For Williamstown and the other three standalone clubs, the selection remains at three.

Each club will receive seven home games in 2022, meaning fans will be able to see the Blue and Gold back in action from mid-February.

"The 2022 fixture will will allow great exposure for the next wave of talent and will provide fans across Victoria the opportunity to get close to the action with clubs and players maintaining a great connection to their communities," AFL State League competition manager Jennie Loughnan said.

Penny Cula-Reid's Seagulls have already announced a host of re-signings for 2022, including Best & Fairest Ruby Tripodi and leadership stalwarts Erin Meade and Eliza Straford.
