Williamstown FC - Hall of Fame
About
The Williamstown Football Club Hall Of Fame seeks to recognise and commemorate those that have made significant contributions to the Williamstown Football Club since its inception. The WFC Board of Directors has appointed a Hall of Fame Selection Committee who are given sole responsibility for selecting eligible candidates for induction into the Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame has been split into three categories -
The first category recognising the club’s early history from inception to the turn of the 19th century (1864 – 1900). This category will be known as the “Trailblazers” and all inductees in this classification will be chosen in the inaugural intake.
The second category is from 1901 to the Second World War (please note that the club went into recess for 3 seasons during the Second World War 1942 – 1944). The second category will be known as “Villagers”
The third category will feature players, officials and volunteers from 1951 to the present day. ‘Players’ representing the Williamstown Football Club from 1945 to the present day which incorporates both the VFA and VFL competitions. ‘Officials/ volunteers’, which will recognise the work contributed to the Williamstown cause by coaches, administrators, officials, staff and volunteers.
Selection Criteria for induction into the Hall of Fame
The Committee shall consider a candidate’s outstanding service, devotion and overall contribution to the WFC in determining a candidate’s eligibility for induction into the Hall of Fame.
The Committee will take into account a candidate’s individual record including club and representative games played, premierships and club and individual honours achieved. The number of football games played or coached, or the years of service provided, shall serve only as a consideration and not be determinative in assessing a candidate’s eligibility.
In addition to a candidate’s achievements, qualities such as leadership, skill, courage and sportsmanship shall be considered. The Committee may also consider a candidate’s integrity, loyalty and character.
A candidate should be a person who by their deeds embodies the true Williamstown spirit.
Legends
Legends shall be selected on the basis of their exceptional achievements, extraordinary service, exemplary character and the manner in which they have made a profound contribution to the Williamstown cause. A candidate’s elevation to legend status shall not necessarily be solely determined by the category in which they have been chosen into the Hall of Fame. Other aspects of their overall contribution to the club can also be considered when selecting a candidate’s eligibility for legend status.
