Fixture Update: 2021 VFL & VFLW seasons
No VFL or VFLW matches will take place in Victoria this weekend due to the extension of the statewide lockdown, the AFL has confirmed. This also means that our planned Women's Lunch at Seaview won't be able to go ahead as scheduled this Sunday. We are now planning on an alternative date to hold this event.
In a statement yesterday, the AFL confirmed matches won't proceed in Victoria and NSW, however there will be three VFL games in Queensland with restrictions in that state allowing this weekend; Aspley will host Gold Coast, Southport and Essendon will do battle and the GWS GIANTS will tackle Brisbane. The fixture for all other clubs will now be "reworked."
"This AFL is committed to playing as many games as possible and confirming a finals series for the best performing teams to award a 2021 VFL premier," AFL Head of Talent Pathways and State League Competitions Tristan Salter said.
"A fair balance of home versus away games and match-ups is a challenge for the remainder of the season, but the priority is to play matches."
The AFL also confirmed they are committed to playing out the VFLW Preliminary and Grand Final when possible.
The suspension of games in Victoria this weekend means we have had to also postpone our Women's Lunch event. As there is some uncertainty currently around the fixture for the remainder of the season, we are not able to provide a new date at this time, but we will confirm this as soon as it is practical to.
We'll see you back at the footy soon!
