Seagulls re-sign talented VFLW pair
Williamstown Football Club is elated to announce the re-signing of VFLW pair Scarlett Dunell and Sasha Long.
Dunell, sister of 2015 premiership player and life member Sam, is a versatile utility who made her Williamstown debut during the 2019 season - collecting nine disposals and showcasing some of her dynamic traits against Essendon at Downer Oval.
The 23-year-old was a key figure in St Kevins’ 2019 senior women’s premiership triumph, being named in the best players in eight out of 13 matches including the grand final.
"Scarlett has shown great promise during the pre-season with her elite running capacity; clocking up the number one spot in our aerobic testing, she continues to stretch her limits," senior coach Penny Cula-Reid said.
"Setting the bar high, continuing to push her teammates to be better, along with her attitude and work rate, Scarlett is able to take her football to the next level. Bringing in line her aerial and kicking abilities, Scarlett is ready to continue the famous name in the Williamstown Football Club."
Long first joined the Seagulls during the 2020 pre-season on the back of two successive Big V representative appearances and the honour of being selected in the 2019 VAFA Division 1 Women’s Team of the Year after dominating for local side Beaumaris.
The 21-year-old natural midfielder made her VFLW debut for the Southern Saints back in 2018 and possesses the innate ability to play anywhere on the field.
"When Sasha has the ball in hand, you know she is going to make good decisions," Cula-Reid said.
"Sasha is really starting to understand the game and moves into dangerous spots on the ground. Utilising her decision making process will help with our ball movement and how we are going to play in the up and coming 2021 season."
