Seagulls welcome young gun Jack Toner
Williamstown Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of exciting youngster Jack Toner for season 2021.
Toner is a Dandenong Stingrays graduate from 2019 and finished runner-up in their best and fairest count, averaging 20.2 disposals, 3.8 inside 50s (the fifth most in the NAB League), three tackles and 4.5 marks per game.
The 20-year-old also featured in six senior matches for local club Narre Warren and played a key role in their 2019 Premier Division grand final win over Berwick in AFL Outer East.
Toner, a hard-running defender-midfielder, plied his trade in South Australia in 2020 when he lined up for SANFL club Central Districts.
The young gun played 10 matches for the Bulldogs last year in the truncated season and averaged 17.4 touches along the way - a stand out game coming in Round 13 when he collected 27 disposals, five tackles, nine marks and four inside and rebound 50s in a complete performance against Glenelg.
GM-Football Stephen Soulsby said he is delighted to add Toner to the Club’s VFL playing list.
“Jack is an emerging talent and is one that can play multiple roles either through our defensive or midfield group," Soulsby said.
"He took the opportunity to play some SANFL footy in 2020 which has greatly assisted his development over the past 12 months having come through the Stingrays prior to that.
"With the new rule changes around playing under-22s, bringing in players outside of our 2020 group was focused on players that can play a variety of positions, which Jack has that ability to do so," Soulsby added.
