Vale Don Carmichael

Williamstown Football Club is saddened to report that former player Don Carmichael passed away last Thursday October 8, at the age of 83.

Carmichael joined the Seagulls ahead of the 1960 VFA season after stints with Essendon - where he won a reserves best and fairest in 1955 - St Kilda and Redan. He played 90 games and kicked 31 goals throughout his Williamstown career between 1960 and 1965.

The versatile forward was also a member of the Seagulls’ 1961 and 1964 grand final sides, placed third in the Club’s best and fairest award in 1962 and was named the most serviceable player in 1961.

Carmichael was a handy all-round sportsman, playing in three A Grade cricket premierships with Longford Cricket Club in 1975/76, 1976/77 and 1977/78 and later becoming a life member at North Gippsland Bowls Club.

In 2016, Bowls Victoria honoured Carmichael for nearly 30 years of distinguished service to Gippsland bowls at all levels, awarding him the Outstanding Service Award.

Carmichael remained a loyal Club 1864 member at Williamstown, right through to 2020.

Williamstown Football Club extends its deepest condolences to the Carmichael family and friends at this time.
