Seagulls Secure Second Pre-Season Victory

Williamstown has recorded a 36-point win over an improved Frankston outfit today at Frankston Oval.

Willie Wheeler was the standout, with 17 disposals and three goals in a Seagulls side that provided a very even spread of solid performances.

Ruckman Tyler Curtis also displayed a promising performance, getting dangerous when pushed forward to kick two goals as well as creating opportunities for others.

The early scenes were quite competitive, with Frankston taking it right up to the reigning premiers, before the Seagulls were able to gain the ascendency in the second half of the first term, allowing them to mount some scoreboard pressure on their opponents.

With Ben Jolley, Ayce Cordy and Jake Greiser starting well and Nick Meese dominating in the ruck, the Seagulls raced to a 35-0 lead at quarter time.

The second term would be a different story however, with Frankston piling on four straight goals, meaning that the first nine goal of the contest were all kicked to the bay end of the ground.

Williamstown soon steadied however with a couple of late goals and from there were able to keep Frankston at a distance to prevent any chance of a boilover.

First-year player Liam Griffiths was again promising picking up 17 disposals across half-back and through the middle, while the aforementioned Greiser and Wheeler picked up 18 and 17 disposals respectively.

With a break ahead for the team over the upcoming Easter weekend, the Seagulls will now look to their full-dress rehearsal on Saturday April 2, when they host 2015 finalists Sandringham at Burbank Oval.

Final Score

Frankston: 8.10 (58)

Williamstown: 13.16 (94)

Goals: Wheeler 3, Cordy 2, Curtis 2, Dunell, Conway, Bugeja, Hetherington, Owen, Anastasio.
