VFLW Leadership Group Announced

Willamstown Football Club has selected its leadership group for it's inaugural VFLW season.

Leading the team as the first ever Captain is Sarah Chapman who has come from the St Kilda Sharks where she played over 100 games.

“There is something really special about this club and you feel it from the moment you walk in the door, it’s like your second home.” Chapman said.

Joining her in the leadership group is Rachel Achampong (vice captain), Emily Paterno, Anna Saxton and Jessica Kile.

Achampong, also comes from the St Kilda Sharks where she played over 100 games after coming down from Sydney.

Saxton, comes from Diamond Creek where she played in their 2012 premiership side and also played 100 games for the club.

"As a mature aged player, I want to lead by example by working hard and playing consistent tough footy. I also want to guide the younger and developing players." Saxton said.

Kile has joined the Seagulls after playing for the Bendigo Thunder where she captained the side to premiership success so Kile brings a wealth of experience to the club.

Paterno has played more than 50 games at a variety of clubs and says that this is a fantastic honour.

"I'm absolutely honoured. I feel fortunate to be able to give back to the game after it has given so much to me."

"I'm excited to see how we develop as a team, as well as how this helps me develop not only as a person and player, but career wise as well. We are all super lucky to be able to operate in such a professional environment, and to also work closely with an incredibly talented coaching team. Being involved with the team in this capacity, is something that I am proud of, and I look forward to being held in a position of such accountability."

The women's first practice match will be held on Sunday April 8th at Williamstown Football Ground.
