Schultz excited to get season underway

It's been a longer off-season than most for Williamstown, as second-year Seagull Lachlan Schultz is quick to attest to.

But the wait is almost over, as Schultz and his teammates get set for a huge Easter Monday clash against Casey to open their season tomorrow.

"I've never been so keen," said Schultz.

"It's been a massive pre-season and I've never been more ready to go."

"There's a lot of excitement around the club, as well as some nerves with the boys who haven't played with the club, but everyone is itching to play."

The 2017 pre-season hasn't always been kind to Schultz, but the talented midfielder/forward from Moama has impressed in the final few pre-season games and will be looking to work his way into the senior lineup early on.

"It's been one of the toughest pre-seasons I've done, and because of it I feel in ideal shape," said Schultz.

"I did have a minor setback with some concussion, but I worked really hard on getting back to full fitness and I'm feeling great now."

Schultz was a part of the preliminary final side that went down to a strong Casey outfit in 2016, after a stellar first season with the Seagulls.

Now another year on, he and his teammates will be out for retribution come Monday with a new look side at both levels.

"Being a new year the club has new goals and new methods of reaching them," said Schultz.

"I've focused a lot on learning the new structures as well as a few things I've recognised as my weaknesses."

With another long pre-season now done and dusted, Schultz will now look to put all the practice into play on an Easter Monday that is said to be an absolutely cracking day for football.

And like his teammates, Schultz says he will relish the challenge of playing one of the strongest teams at both levels, first up.

"It's the perfect way to start the season with a tough opponent like Casey," says Schultz.

"It should be a really good hit out and we're looking forward to the battle."

"I'm confident we can come out on top at both levels."
