We had 10 boys play for their community club over the weekend, with some very encouraging performances.

In VAFA Premier B, Lachlan Knight kicked a goal as his University Blacks defeated Caulfield by 19 points in a come from behind to advance into the second week of finals, whilst in VAFA Premier C action; both Kal Dawson and Nick Ebinger worked hard all day for Williamstown CYMS in their thrilling loss to Fitzroy by 3 points meaning they will face Old Geelong in the Preliminary Final this week.

In the EDFL, Jayden Ranno kicked 2 goals and was amongst the best for Greenvale, although it wasn’t enough as Strathmore proved too strong, winning by 40 points and knocking Greenvale out of finals.

In the South East League, Bailey Morrish kicked a goal for Beaconsfield; however they were overrun by Cranbourne in a 23 point loss in their first semi final match on Sunday. In Division 2 of the Northern Football League, Corey Sleep was a solid contributor in Lower Plenty’s low scoring 14 point loss to Eltham in which Lower Plenty will now face Banyule in the Preliminary Final.

In the Country Leagues, Ryley Monkhorst was best on ground for Woori Yallock in their 35 point win over Mt. Evelyn, whilst Darby Henderson kicked a goal for Echuca in their 16 point win over Tatura progressing them through to the Second Semi Final. Nick Richards worked hard all day for Wangaratta in their 15 point loss to Wodonga in which Wangaratta now face Yarrawonga in the first semi final.

In the Ballarat League, Liam Carter continued his recent run of form as he was again amongst the best for Melton in their 22 point win over Lake Wendouree giving Melton a double chance as they head into the second week of their finals series.

Finals series continued over the weekend, as we had 2 girls feature in semi-finals and 1 playing off in a Grand Final.

In the WRFL 1st Semi Final, Kayla Koropeckyj put in a strong performance as she featured amongst the best, leading Spotswood to a 23 point win over Laverton and progressing to the Preliminary Final. In the 2nd Semi Final, Krystyn Raymundo worked hard all day for Caroline Springs but they couldn’t defeat an unbeaten Manor Lakes, going down by 60 points. Raymundo’s Caroline Springs have another chance to make the Grand Final however, as they will play against Koropeckyj’s Spotswood for the 3rd time in 4 weeks in the Preliminary Final.

In AFL Goldfields, Jamilla Cranny featured for Redan in the Grand Final against East Point. Cranny was a solid contributor, and although East Point came home strongly it wasn’t enough as Redan held on to win the Grand Final by just 5 points in a nail biting finish. Congratulations to Redan for what was a spectacular season, only losing 1 game throughout the season.
