Williamstown women's showcase their skill and class
Today was a memorable day for Williamstown as we fielded our first ever women’s team at the Williamstown Football Ground.
It was a dominant effort from the women’s team against Footscray Bulldogs, as they walked away 50-point winners in their first practice match of the year.
There were plenty of great signs from the players today, with Kayla Koropeckyj being the standout kicking three goals for the day – one coming from 40-metres out.
With a great spread of contributors across the ground, the midfield worked tirelessly to keep the ball in the forward half.
Emily Paterno and Jessica Kile worked in tandem in the middle of the ground, racking up plenty of disposals and clearances, with Paterno kicking the very first goal for the women’s team.
Up forward Morgan Lowe, Stacey Cross and Georgia Harris all played their roles, with Lowe always looking dangerous alongside forward targets Cross and Harris, who showed plenty of skill in the marking contests.
Across half-back Jacinta Reid displayed her dominance with intercept marks and rebounding the ball back into the forward half with poise and precision.
Looking ahead to next week the women’s team tackle the Essendon Bombers at Williamstown prior to the men’s game.
Williamstown: 8.6 – 54
