Development Seagulls Go Down In Low-Scoring Affair

Williamstown's Development team has suffered a narrow defeat in incredible circumstances at Casey Fields today.

After trailing for most of the contest, the Seagulls goaled through Tom Johnstone with a minute to go to tie the game, but a 50m penalty and goal after the siren to the Scorpions proved to be the decider in their Development side's first hit-out of the pre-season.

Despite the low-scoring affair, there were some great signs from a Seagulls side that had 15 new faces running around.

Lachlan Schulz showed plenty, winning the ball both inside and outside and proving to be smart around goal with two majors.

Tom Condon also showed some spark, while 2015 Western Jets best and fairest winner Lachlan Knight showed his trademark breakaways at the stoppage on numerous occasions.

Down back, key defenders Christian Buykx-Smith and Liam Carter both showed that they are going to be hard to score on this season, with both TAC Cup graduates smothering their opponents and providing some good rebound from defence also.

The Development team will get another opportunity for some pre-season success when they face Frankston next Saturday.

Final Score

Casey: 5.12 (42)

Williamstown: 5.6 (36)

Goals: Schulz 2, Ebinger, Condon, T.Johnstone.
