Giants provide tough challenge for Seagulls

Williamstown's VFLW team faced a very experienced GWS side in their last practice match today.

Playing with many AFLW players in their side, the Giants proved to be to strong over the four quarters at Downer Oval

While the final score may not be flattering, the opportunity for the Seagulls to test themselves against a quality side will be a valuable experience.

Gemma Anderson was a standout for the Seagulls, collecting many possessions in the midfield, laying some impressive tackles and kicking a goal.

There was a lot of work for Rebecca Dardengo to do in defence and she did so at a very high standard, giving her opponents no time on the ball.

New recruit Aliesha Newman showed plenty of good signs in her first game for Williamstown and will look to build on that.

Jedda Heard had a good game in the ruck and had a big influence around the ground as she took a number of intercept marks.

Morgan Lowe and Megan Williamson both worked hard all day in the midfield and will look to transfer that consistent performance into the first game of the VFLW season.

Ashlea Melnikas and Kaitlin Smith both got significant game time in their first game of the pre-season.

Williamstown: 2.2.14

GWS Giants: 13.15.93
